SKUNK ANANSIE is choosen "Brightest Hope" on UK magazine "Kerrang!" Awards though they've never released a debut album. It's a reason I'd like to hear. I wonder who they are and why they are loved so bad.
The answer was found soon... when I heard their single 'I Can Dream' at first. My first impression is only surprising. Title song is a very pop song, but other songs had very heaviness. Recent young people like them. One of them, 'Little Baby Swastikkka' is... a very fearful song. I was scared and had some kind of disgust. I guess what "Swastikkka" means. I understood it by reading a dictionary and why they spells so. They - especially vocalist called Skin - often appear to mass communication at UK. Her interviews always let me be interested in. I don't have any politics and I should not say them, but I'm in sympathy with the song. Otherwise it's typical sound I don't like so much (too noisy for me). With both a expectation and insecures, I waited for their debut album.
As a result, I'm exciting it's one of the wonderful album I heard this year. It's easier to listening than one I imagined. It surely contains heavy, agressive and dangerous songs with guitar and bass (remarkable bass line), but the points I note are Skin writes and sings as passionate as she can. All of titles and lyrics have all feelings she had - LOVE, DESIRE, HATE, JOY, ANGER, FEAR, SORROW and HOPE -. I've never heard such a female singer and such an emotional album. When I finished listening until last song, I felt like watching a drama that's the way she walks in. She looks sexy and strong, but I might find her another side - she really is pretty, compassionate and weak -. This is a well-thought-out album. I always hope to meet good vocalists who can express theirselves. She also is one of remarkable ones.
Repeating this album, I can't help falling Anansie's world. If I'm going to UK next time, I'd like to meet their performance. I must feel the heat. Now they rise up...
